Seven questions to ask yourself and the store before buying an intimate product.
You do not need to know every catalogue term before buying. You need to understand what you are buying, how it works, and whether it fits the scenario you have in mind.
The questions below make model comparisons easier. The answer should be in the specifications, description, instructions, or support. If it is not, pausing the decision and asking is the sensible next step.
In brief
- Check the material, exact dimensions, intended use, and controls.
- Before buying, understand charging, cleaning, warranty, and exchange terms.
- Compare two or three models using the same questions, not advertising adjectives.
Short answer
Before paying, you should understand four things: what scenario the product is designed for, what it is made of, how to control it, and how to care for it.
Everything else helps you compare models. If the page does not answer a question about safety, compatibility, or returns, get clarification before buying.
Seven questions to ask
| Question | Why it matters | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| What is the product made of? | Material affects touch, cleaning, and compatibility. | Specifications and instructions |
| What are the exact dimensions? | Photos cannot show weight, length, and shape precisely enough. | Specifications table |
| How does it work? | You understand power, buttons, modes, and charging. | Description and specifications |
| What scenario is it designed for? | It is easier to remove models that do not fit your needs. | Title, description, category |
| How should it be cleaned and stored? | Care becomes part of the decision instead of a surprise later. | Instructions or support |
| What does the warranty cover? | You know where to turn if a problem appears. | Warranty terms |
| How do delivery and exchanges work? | You see the full purchase conditions before checkout. | Store pages and support |
Material and specifications: what is actually stated
Do not stop at one word in the title. Check the exact material description, surface, water resistance, dimensions, and what is included. If several materials are listed, see which part of the product each one refers to.
Planned Parenthood recommends cleaning intimate products before and after use, following the instructions, and choosing non-porous materials where appropriate. Its short guide also covers basic care. For lubricant compatibility, always check the instructions for the specific product and lubricant.
If a title contains a promotional adjective but the specifications do not explain it, use the specifications or ask a question. An adjective is not a specification.
Size, controls, and your scenario
Size is measured in centimetres
Check length, diameter, weight, and shape. If the product has a working area or handle, look for a diagram or additional photo. This lets you imagine it in your own scenario rather than in an abstract advertisement.
Features should be understandable
Find information about buttons, modes, app, remote, charging, and operating time. More modes do not automatically make a better choice. It matters more that you know how to start, change a mode, and stop the product.
The description should match the category
Compare the title, category, photos, and specifications. If they describe different scenarios or a sentence clearly belongs to another model, do not ignore it. Ask the store to confirm the data before buying.
Care and storage
Before buying, find out how to clean the product, whether it can be washed, how to protect the charging port, and where to store it. The manufacturer’s instructions are more important than a general blog tip because models have different limits.
If you use lubricant, check compatibility with the material of the specific product and with the lubricant itself. If you experience pain, irritation, or another health concern, stop using the product and consult a professional. This article is not medical advice.
Warranty, delivery, and support
A useful product page does not end at the "Add to cart" button. Before checkout, check availability, currency and price, delivery method, exchange terms, and warranty. If a product has a seal or hygiene-related exchange limitation, it should be stated before the purchase.
You can ask the Room 18 team when you need a specification or scenario clarified. For the full picture, review payment and delivery and exchange and return terms.
Before payment
Check the model, specifications, price, and availability.
Before accepting delivery
Check the outside of the package and its contents within the store’s stated rules.
After purchase
Keep the instructions and follow the cleaning and storage guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Which question should I ask first?
Start with the scenario. Once you know how you want to use the product and what is not acceptable for you, the catalogue narrows faster than it does through general adjectives.
Are reviews enough to make a decision?
Reviews can add context, but they do not replace exact specifications, instructions, or store terms. Check the facts first, then read other buyers’ impressions.
What if a characteristic is not translated or conflicts with the description?
Do not guess its meaning. Ask the store to clarify the data for the specific model. You then have an answer before checkout.
